FAKE PRODUCTS & INGREDIENTS IN SUPPLEMENTS

⚠️ FAKE PRODUCTS and INGREDIENTS IN SUPPLEMENTS

What You Need to Know About Substitutions & Misleading Labels

The supplement market is increasingly crowded — and not always honest or transparent. Some products are mislabelled, substituted, or diluted, while being sold as premium ingredients.

This matters — because in men’s health: what’s inside the capsule matters.

🌾 Rye Grass Pollen – Not Always Genuine

Rye Grass Pollen Extract has decades of use in German urology clinics, with a history of structured research in men’s health. However, some products do not contain true Rye Grass Pollen.

🚫 The Problem — Common substitutions include bee pollen, “flower pollen,” and mixed or unspecified pollens. Note: Graminex® G63® is Flower Pollen — not Rye Grass Pollen. These are not equivalent.

🌿 What Genuine Means

  • Derived from a specific species (e.g. Secale cereale)
  • Processed into a standardised extract

🔍 What to Look For: Named botanical source • Extract ratio (e.g. 20:1) • Clear, transparent labelling

🌲 Maritime Pine Bark – Not All Pine Is Equal

The most researched pine bark extract comes from Pinus pinaster (French Maritime Pine Bark), including standardised forms such as Pycnogenol.

⚠️ Common Fake Substitutes

  • ❌ Red Chinese Pine Pinus massoniana (China) — supplied in cheap tablet form
  • ❌ Loblolly Pine / Southern Yellow Pine Pinus taeda (USA)

These differ in composition and lack equivalent human research.

Red Flags: “Pine Bark Extract” without a Latin name • No standardisation (procyanidins %) • Claims of being “similar” to Pycnogenol — Red Chinese Pine is NOT Pinus pinaster.

🔍 What to Look For: Pinus pinaster clearly stated • Standardisation (typically 65–75% procyanidins) • Origin: Southern France, Landes Region / Mediterranean. Clinical research is only based on Pinus pinaster — not substitutes.

🌍 Pygeum africanum – Authentic & Sustainable?

Pygeum africanum (Prunus africana) is widely used in men’s health — but is now under severe environmental pressure and risk of extinction in some countries.

⚠️ Conservation Status: Vulnerable (IUCN Red List) • Protected under CITES Appendix II

🚫 The Problem — Some products labelled “Pygeum” do not contain genuine Prunus africana, use substitutes or diluted material, or lack clear botanical identification.

🌿 Why It Matters: Authentic bark contains key natural compounds such as phytosterols. Substitution reduces integrity, alters composition, and raises ethical concerns.

🔍 What to Look For: Pygeum africanum / Prunus africana clearly stated • CITES-compliant sourcing
